Some people are natural born helpers. If there's trouble, they're out there organizing a food drive and checking on their neighbors. Then there's the Other Ones who believe no state of emergency is so bad it can't be made worse by scaring the neighbors and leaving everyone in doubt as to the intentions of the authorities. And so it follows that during recent flooding in Kentucky a bogus alert from the state fish and wildlife department was posted to social media warning residents that Bigfoot sightings were occurring near waterways. Apparently Hairy Man never turns down a crawdad dinner. In sharp contrast to this hoax is this report from Nathan Edwards of
The Sunday Mail (via Malcom Smith) on
Apes in North Queensland. Smith raises a good point, one which a good number of us have probably never considered: Yowies shouldn't exist "because Australia is marsupial country, and no non-flying, non-swimming placental mammal larger than a rat has ever arrived here without human help." Smith goes on to explain his path from skeptic to believer (thanks to Tony Healy and Paul Cropper's definitive work,
The Yowie), even as there is no evidence pointing to the lunatic who served as immigration official for the first transplanted Bigfoot family. Like we just said, some people are helpers. Then there are the Other Ones. (CM)
