Michael Cifone suggests that, due to the
profoundly anomalous nature of the UFO/UAP—especially its possessing both physical and psychical aspects—"there is absolutely no sound (which is to say
uncontroversial) theory of UAPs." In
Interlude No. 1 On Reasoning About & From Certain UFO Evidence Cifone considers getting at the
what of UFOs, their
constitution, origin and nature, and some problems in judging the actual
truth of data.
On the Enigmas of UAP Theory (Part Two) features the 2004 Nimitz "Tic-Tacs" and the 1994 Ariel School mass CEIIS as illustrating both physical and psychical components, but in differing degrees. Cifone then observes that Jacques Vallee, realizing conventional approaches to understanding UFOs were failing as "this phenomenon was recalcitrant," decided to focus upon the psychological or psychic aspects of UFOs rather than their physical specifics--whatever that acknowledged physical reality might actually be. Vallee regards the UFO phenomenon "as manifestations of an ongoing interactive process of engagement, that between human beings and
whatever it is that is the source of these appearances." Vallee then extends this connection through time and across a variety of human/paranormal encounters. Cifone's
On the Enigmas of UAP Theory (Part Three) posits "that Vallee's 'Control System' hypothesis constitutes, in fact, a very flawed "third way" between the believers and the debunkers." All this is prelude towards approaching a new science of the phenomena. (WM)
