Iceland’s Incredible Inedible Sea Monsters - Mysterious Universe

The Land of Fire and Ice is not just known for volcanic activity and glacial terrains. Iceland has its own collection of leviathans, each of whom come with their own unique Do Not Consume warning. Apparently while the rest of the world was afraid to go back in the water, the Vikings were hunting beasties and wondering which wine would pair best with neurotoxin. Fortunately for the Loch Ness Monster, the Scots were busy trying to digest haggis. Speaking of Nessie, here is More on the Rip Hepple Nessletter Archives. In a previous post, Glasgow Boy had this to say about the newsletter, started in 1974: "In some ways, the Nessletter is THE most important document available on Loch Ness and its Monster for its chronicles a phenomenon, its abode, followers and critics in a continuous manner for nearly 40 years now. Quite simply, a unique publication such as this should not be allowed to disappear from view." We couldn't agree more. But let's not forget the Lesser-Known Lake Monsters of the United Kingdom. Nick Redfern's report makes it seem that any decently sized body of water in the UK has a resident beast. Maybe Redfern should be getting paid referral fees by VisitBritain and planning a monster tour, because we would gladly fly overseas (post pandemic) for 8 hours to participate. (CM)
