The wait is over, and The Gray Lady has spoken again on UFOs. The article doesn't exactly exceed expectations. Much of its "news" was contained in or could be inferred from the draft Senate Intelligence Committee bill that surfaced last month. Former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's belief about ET crash retrievals and their study is interesting, but doesn't have the wow-power of those controversial "Wilson/Davis" notes. Eric Davis himself does offer a firm "conclusion," supported by his recent briefing "about retrievals from'off-world vehicles not made on this earth.'" Ralph Blumenthal and Leslie Kean make a very good point about what's put "officials who have studied U.F.O.s in the position of stating their views without presenting any hard evidence." But opinion without evidence is par for the course in public discourse these days, so it will be interesting to see the UFO community's reaction to this piece. (WM)
