Kraken Alert! Huge Shark Shows Scars From Giant Squid Attack - Mysterious Universe

Our oceans have a long and fabled history of monsters waiting in their depths to drag unsuspecting sailors to their hideous and untimely demises. But there's a reason the biggest badass of them all--the Kraken--is depicted as a giant squid. Recent underwater photos obtained by National Geographic indicate the the tentacled leviathan will even tangle with a shark when the fancy strikes. But those of us with a keen interest in cephalopods know better than to invite a Visit from a Giant Squid, at least not the living kind. But recently in South Africa scientists were given the opportunity of a lifetime when a recently deceased giant calamari washed up on shore begging to be carted off to a lab for further investigation. And since it wasn't an intro to a horror movie (in spite of 2020 being what it is) the beastie did not reanimate and take over the mind of the nearest hapless intern. It did however provide a rare glimpse into the life and times of the world's foremost historical sea monster. We have to take advantage of every opportunity to learn, even the smelly, rubbery ones.
