Magic And Mysticism Reveal Cognitive Shortcuts With Implications Beyond Entertainment - Science Magazine

Scientists may believe they know how cognition and attention work, but magicians have valuable real-world experience one can not get from a sterile lab. Matthew Tompkins's Smoke And Mirrors gives a peek behind the curtain as to how magicians fool us and we fool ourselves. If only Clive Wilkins and Nicola Clayton could've shown this book to the S.P.R. and Tom Ruffles, more would've been known about The Psychic Enigma of Dr. Soal, his experiments in psi, and what appears to be the most notorious con in psychic history. In fluffier news, Dave Basner reports a Woman Who Died For 27 Minutes Shared A Haunting Message When Revived. So much so, someone had it tattooed on their wrist. (CS)

We Live In A Liminal Realm, And Now There Is Data To Prove It - Mysterious Universe

I don't believe you, Bill Doerrfeld, because Madonna says we're all living in a Material World. Being open-minded anomalists, we'll give him and the Limnal Earth map/database the time of day along with what counts for high strangeness to be included here. Even if the phenomena is all in our heads, A Key Brain Difference Between Voice-Hearing Patients And Voice-Hearing Healthy Controls Challenges The "Continuum Model" according to Christian Jarrett. Perhaps these scientists are capturing a glimpse of what Bronze Age minds were like before the collapse and awakening of consciousness as-we-know-it. Weirder still is Julie Beischel, et al.,'s new study concerning Hematological And Psychophysiological Correlates Of Anomalous Information Reception In Mediums, and why people in poor health may be more sensitive to the beyond. Just remember this is a preliminary study with more to come! (CS)

Bigfoot Are Not ...

Bigfoot are not -

Tree-hugging hippies with only sunshine and love

Indigents that are homeless

Idiot apes

Just like us, Bigfoot present in many personalities from saintly to asshole. Their directive to survive is to remain hidden which is one thing they have in common. But, just like how we sometimes get a maniac who kills multiple people, they too can have their rebels who don't adhere to the directive.

They may live out in the wilds and depend on nature, but that does not necessarily make them insightful hippies who fight for the environment and pass judgment on man. They simply live in these arenas, like you and I live in the city and drive cars and don't think twice about the resources we depend upon. We simply get up each day and repeat the same directive to eat, mate, sleep, and defecate.

There is no need to consider them higher beings or create a Church of Sasquatch mentality about these "forest hippies." To do so would be the same as if the Bigfoot worshiped us for our cigarette lighters and airplanes and considered us gods.

They are not homeless. They live a different way than we do. We can purchase a land and build a home for our physiques which are not adapted to the climate. They, however, adapt to all climates, are hearty and quite content outdoors. They would never feel comfortable in our "shelter."

They do not need us to feed them. They eat just fine. The last thing we want to do is get them to think of us as a source of food and comfort. We can't be trusted. And, to add to that - they cannot be trusted either. Sometimes aggressive behaviors show when they become dependent on habituators feeding them.

They are not dumb. If they were stupid animals, they could be easily coaxed into the open, be caught foraging through our trash, and the like. They are very intelligent.

Their minds, however, do not work like ours do. They are likely coming more from the right brain and that can sometimes appear savant-like or autistic, but believe me they excel us in their body control, strength, stealth, vision, ability to see in low light, and auditing sensory input.

We are simply using the noggin in different focuses, just as a person born into a family of tall individuals might do well at basketball and his short cousin who isn't coordinated focuses on math instead.

Long ago, ancient types of man interbred, leaving us with Neanderthal, Denisovans, and another unknown contributor's DNA. But, the window of breeding among these divergent types ended quite long ago. That left us with two intelligent bipedal humans that couldn't reproduce together, so they took two different paths with very little interest in the other. You might compare it to the bear and the bobcat. They both are stalking prey in the forests, but they have little use for each other or need to interact.

There is a lot of debate about what Bigfoot IS, but perhaps we gain more insight by realizing what Bigfoot ISN'T.

Vintage 'Caballero' Shadow Figure

“I saw a figure that looked like a man wearing an old style Spanish hat with a wide brim. As I got closer, the black was a black like I've never seen, darker than any black, like it was sucking in the little light that was left as it was dusk, sun just setting. I was on my bicycle in a field that ran between housing neighborhoods. I got about 10 feet away from what I thought was a Mexican man in vintage style clothes since there were a lot in Sacramento, California in 1981, when I saw him. I opened my mouth to ask the stranger, 'What's up man? Where'd you get those black colored jeans?' Only I stopped on the word 'where' because it turned around to look at me. I actually snuck up on it! No lie! It was staring at a house at the edge of the field, when it turned around. I almost froze. The dude was a quarter inch thick, my mind was freaking out at this point, it was inhuman. Nothing is that thin! Then I saw its eyes or rather two perfect holes where it's eyes should of been. Instead was a bright white light inside the circles that should have been eyes. In the span of a nano-second I processed all this blacker than black shadow cut-out person with holes for eyes. And it was tall, like seven feet tall with the hat and the cloak it was wearing, like it was from colonial time.

I, being the smart ass kid I was, said to it, 'Never mind, homie, better get them eyes fixed first!' Probably not the smartest thing to do, antagonize a dark shadow thing, but I did and hit the pedals on my bike like my feet had rockets strapped on. I was riding as fast as I could, looking back, watching it to see if it was chasing me. I didn't see it, as I was turning my head back, forward. As I'm looking straight left, I see it standing straight across from me even though I left it in the dust. It was right up with me, just slowly turning its head and watching me flee for my life. I don't believe it was malevolent, in fact, I believe it was watching a demon in that house it was staring at. The house was well known for being haunted, screams and roars, and lights and smashing crashing sounds always emitting from the two story that no one lives in. I think it was monitoring the demon in that house. I saw it one more time before I quit going through that field completely, it was in the same place watching that house only this time, the house was going crazy; horrific inhuman screams and lights and the destruction sounds were LOUD. I saw it go into that house just before it started so either it's the demon or its fighting it. I swear this to be completely true, take it how you wish, but it changed my life forever.” Patrick Riley

Astronomers Have Decoded a Weird Signal Coming From A Strange, 3-Body Star System - LiveScience

Let Rafi Letzter be clear here, it's not you-know-who, but something very freaky and cool is happening around NGTS-7 opening up possibilities for real alien civilizations doing some high-level astroengineering. And if that's possible, puny humans know what to look for in hopes of proving we're not alone. Maybe picking out those Alien Technosignatures Buried In The Pipeline Data from Breakthrough Listen (BL). Mainstream outlets are crowing about how BL didn't detect aliens, The Daily Galaxy explains how we've barely scratched the surface of BL's public release of 1 petabyte of astronomical data. By the way if you're feeling self-satisifed and smug that distant stellar explosions won't affect us, Rebecca Boyle has some bad news as she answers the question, Did Nearby Stellar Explosions Kill Off Large Animals? Perhaps the purpose of our tin foil hats isn't to protect ourselves from telepathic adversaries, but shield us from hard radiation. (CS)

The Thylacine May Not Be Extinct As You Might Think. Maybe... - Mysterious Universe

Typically Nick Redfern's on the case for UFO disclosure, but taking a left turn at Albuquerque he looks at the Australian government's wide-ranging disclosre concerning the tasmanian tiger. Sadly, for Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton, there aren't any reports of abductions by thylacines. Running with the theme of hidden critters, Why Don't We Have Higher Quality Bigfoot Pictures? CryptoGuy found a video explaining the challenges of field photography, regardless if the subject is an eight-foot tall ape or something far more mundane. For now we'll settle for eyewitness accounts, regardless of how fraught human recall can be, especially with Liz Hardaway breaking the news on 6 Skunk Ape Sightings In Charlotte, 8 In Sarasota happening recently in her neck of the woods. For you eggheads, Karl Shuker explains it all when it comes to the Shunka Warak'in, Ringdocus, Guyasticutus, Rocky Mountain Hyaena -- A Tangle Of Terms For A Very Taxing Taxiderm Beast exploring the possibilities of a wolf-hyena hybrid and other high crytpo-weirdness. Kripals Newest Book Demands Deeper Study Of Stories Of Universally Shared Human Experiences - Rice News

Sharing is caring, but is it encoded in our DNA? High strangeness is part and parcel of the human experience, yet widely dismissed by science with a capital S while the phenomenon endures with no end in sight. Jeffrey Kripal had a chance to talk with some of these greyfaces, off-the-record, and their personal takes are markedly different than the public establishment. Katharine Shilcutt gets Jeff to talk shop, and about his new book The Flip, which is guaranteed to raise more than a few eyebrows. There are similarties with the lesser brethren, like how Brooks Hays observed When Two Animals Interact, Their Brains Synchronize but is it psi, or a necessary survival tactic? Same goes for Mary Bates's Playful Meerkats Mirroring One Another’s Expressions while play-fighting, along with some proposals as to why this mimicry is vital to meerkat socialization. (CS)

The Beach House, Phoenix, AZ

It was a hot day and my best friend and I were down on Camelback Road in Phoenix and decided to stop in at a landmark cool restaurant to enjoy the atmosphere. What we didn't expect was that the food was just as enjoyable!

The Beach House found at 5th St. and Camelback in Phoenix is easy to spot with a VW van  and a big smiley face sign.

It has such a vintage beach vibe and salty weather-worn look with clean casual dining tables scattered under happy shelter with plants and birds around. The open-air feel and decidedly beachy vibe truly make you feel you're at a Mexico or California beach.

I ordered one of each - grilled and fried fish taco baja style. Oh my gosh - the fried one was the single best fish taco of my entire lifetime. It was nicely coated and crisp bite, flaky white meat, amazing sauces on it that are addictive. I also added some of the table-side, green, medium heat hot sauce and was very happy!!

The staff obviously loves what they do and their casual and very friendly attitude makes you feel like part of the beachy bohemian tribe.

This place is a definite must getaway in the Phoenix sun to feel like you had lunch at a beach getaway.

If you love the beach, be sure to follow my page on Facebook - BOHEMIAN BEACH.

The Cabin Bar and Grill, Heber-Overgaard, Arizona

I took a trek with my best friend up on the Mogollon Rim in Arizona in a place called Heber-Overgaard. There, we pulled into The Cabin Bar and Grill.

We admittedly went there for one particular menu item -

After going to The Lodge in Tempe, Arizona for a Sasquatch Burger, my friend and I decided we needed to make a point of ordering any Bigfoot-related food when we find it.

The burger was smoky from a real grill, the chilies soft and sweet, the mushrooms prefectly sauteed, the cheese super melted and the bacon super crisp. It came on a perfect buttery bun.

The wait staff was so sweet and helpful and the atmosphere so relaxed in the pines. It was hard to get up and leave when we were done, but when we did, we walked away to look up at a second floor open set of doors with a dog on a porch up above looking down on us like, "hey, whazzup? Have a fun time on The Rim."

Perfect setting, perfectly satisfying burger. I highly recommend!

Catalina Tiles

I enjoyed an amazing tour of the Wrigley Mansion in Phoenix. I highly suggest it. While there, I saw amazing tiles everywhere. I came to find out on the tour that Wrigley had bought 99% of Santa Catalina Island in California when his life fell in love with it. To promote business on the island, he started Catalina Tile Company.

After discovering red clay in the mud, Wrigley was an astute enough man to see an industry potential. The tile company was fairly short-lived, but today there is an artisan who continues the practiced look that was unique to the tile. You can find the work at The Steamer Trunk.

Here's some examples of Catalina Tile from the 20,000 square foot mansion on a hill that Wrigley bought his wife for their 50th anniversary. He died in her bedroom a month later. They called it the "Winter Cottage" as it was the smallest of their many homes.

The mansion is unbelievably beautiful and very well maintained and the views from up there on the hillside are astonishing  -

They aren't easy to find these days as the company was sold in the 1930s, but here's some places on ebay selling original tiles. LINK

Harry Price: The Original Ghost Hunter Who Investigated the Most Haunted House in England - The Lineup

Orrin Grey looks back to a time before ghost hunters wore T-shirts, hats on backwards, and kept repeating "wow!" Harry Price was an early 20th century "amateur magician and psychic researcher" who tried to debunk spiritualists and the like, with mixed success. Inevitably he took a crack at Borley Rectory, which didn't enhance his reputation. Nonetheless, he left behind an "extensive collection of writings" which are available for those who want to know more about his investigations. If he'd had the chance he would no doubt have been keen to visit Dublin and examine The Mysterious Ghost Room of Maynooth. All manner of scary happenings are said to have prompted several suicides in this room, and some investigators have been "overcome with a malevolent dread." Similar feelings have arisen on the Emerald Isle thanks to Bizarre Encounters with Real Banshees. Brent Swancer recounts several scary tales of these supernatural harbingers of death. (LP)

Is Transient Lunar Phenomena Electric? - Thunderbolts

Reports of mysterious lights on the Moon date back more than a thousand years. Scientists call these flashes of light Transient Lunar Phenomena. This piece argues that the phenomenon is likely electrical in nature. But the Moon is not our only neighbor where these light flashes have been reported: Odd Flash Photographed on Mars. NASA's Curiosity Rover recently snapped an odd flash floating above the surface of the planet. And it's not the first time. Was it a reflection or some kind of camera interference? Or could it be the remnant of an ancient Martian civilization, as a CIA remote viewing tasking of the planet suggested in 1984? Baffling 3,000-year-old Out of Place Mace Head Found in Poland - Ancient Origins

Hope the owner isn't still looking for this apparently Middle Eastern Bronze Age artifact. Ed Whelan's article doesn't mention whether this single "sport" came from a stratified deposit, but based on the fact the amateur archaeologists were looking for World War II vintage stuff, it could really have been deposited anywhen in the last 30 centuries. It sure gets one thinking, though. And if that doesn't set the mind to working, how about A Mysterious Vanishing Village in China? Brent Swancer has a through-and-through bizarre tale of a much more recent mystery whose details just get stranger and stranger. Tall Red-Eyed Humanoid Encountered in Oakland, CA

I recently found the following account:

I was driving home with my brother between 12 and 2 AM. I had just gotten on the highway and in the middle divider of the road my headlights shined on giant man at least 8 to 9 feet tall and his skin was all charcoal grey. He wasn't broad, (I couldn't see his body because it looked like he was wearing a large black trench coat or cloak of some kind) but I'd imagine he would have been around 200-250 pounds from how his head looked. He also had red glowing eyes, which seemed like they glowed on their own and weren't just reflecting my headlights since I could still seem them once my lights were no longer shining on him.

I was driving at least 50-60mph so I only saw him for a few seconds. It almost looked like he was shocked to see me and was shuffling back into the bushes but he was almost as tall as them. The way he walked creeped me out the most, he was sidestepping but they were fast really short steps like if you had to walk with your pants around your ankles or a were a penguin or something.

I yelled "what the f**k!" and my brother, who was laying back in his seat sat up, looked over and said "what the f**k!" too. We were both rattled but kept on driving home

This was in Oakland, CA in August 2017. I don't remember the exact date but I could probably find out since someone I know had a wedding a few days before.

Below is a really bad drawing of what he looked like and a maps link to the part of the highway I saw him on. I don't remember the exact place but it was somewhere on that stretch of highway - Derateo

NOTE: Is it possible that this being had wings wrapped around it? Possibly similar to the Bolingbrook, IL encounter? I put that question to the witness...waiting for a reply. Lon
