It's all too easy in our world of cryptid sightings to confuse inanimate objects for slavering hairy beasts. (Some of us had similar problems finding a decent roommate back in college.) But pareidolia isn't so easy to fall back on when the daylight dims and unmistakable eyeshine warns trespassers to stay away.
Tapetum Mysterium: “Red Eyed Monsters and Eye-Shine, Part Two goes on to explain that the known primates do not have an ocular membrane to allow their eyes to glow in the dark. So this begs the question, What the heck are witnesses looking at when they see eyeshine that just happens to match an 8-foot-tall biped? (CM)
