One wonders whether the long-awaited book
American Cosmic: UFOs, Religion, Technology will match the blockbuster promise implied by its author's earliest interviews. After all, this is mainstream Prof. Diana Walsh Pasulka, Chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religion at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, and the publisher is that bastion of tradition Oxford University Press. Mainstream reviewers naturally emphasize the religious aspect of what after all is a book about UFO belief as religion, by a scholar with dynamic work in religion's relationships with modern technology. But ufologists may be more interested in the UFO crash sites and alleged artifacts also figuring in the story. This artfully-written excerpt from the book undoubtedly will provide some satisfaction to both camps. (WM)
