Nick Redfern demonstrates that even a professional investigator of the strange and cryptic has a limit to what he can believe. The Khon Paa is reputed to have no knee joints and a translucent torso through which its internal organs can be viewed. It also runs like the wind, which makes for a great tale but very little in the way of probability. Next, Redfern demonstrates how written testimonial can help determine origins of a strange creature--or propagate a myth and get in the way of finding out the truth (even before the Internet).
“A Big Monkey Or Ape Perhaps refers to correspondence from 1915 between zoological peers describing a 4-foot-tall apelike creature in India known to the locals as Jungli Apa. The piece goes on to describe some extraordinary features of the animal that leaves Redfern to conclude there was more hearsay to the piece than fact, although it certainly was food for the imagination.
