It's been an eventful year since the
To The Stars...Academy of Arts & Science thrust itself into the public eye, and a sane, succinct, and balanced appreciation of the significance of what has occurred is sorely needed. Billy Cox provides just that, cutting a swath through the numerous dramatic yet confusing and controversial details and sidelights to examine how the world has changed, or not, since that staged announcement. Highlights include the mid-December revelations in the
New York Times and elsewhere about a (formerly) secret and former (or continuing) Pentagon program to study UFO reports, a muddled brouhaha about anomalous materials, studies on humans and other paranormal topics, and perhaps most importantly some UFO videos that continue to befuddle and bedazzle. As Billy writes: "here we are, a year after the rollout of an idea nobody knows quite how to manage." Cox prepares us, as much as perhaps anyone can, for Year Two in a continuing story whose length, full implications, and ultimate conclusion are impossible to forecast. (WM)
