Mix West Virginia's Mothman of 1966 with the Kelly–Hopkinsville encounter of 1955 in Kentucky and you'll get a flavor of what the Van Meter Visitor of 1903 is all about. It began in Iowa, when a doctor encountered and shot at a tall, humanoid figure framed by bat-like wings and a single horn on its head which emanated a blindingly bright light. The gun had no effect on the humanoid. And that was just the start of what is truly a "bizarre case." But what was it? Spooky urban legend? Ultraterrestrial? Or a riff in the fabric of reality? The latter is what Joshua P. Warren says he has found at a location north of Las Vegas. No, we are not talking about The Strip. In
Researcher Discovers ‘Time Warp’ Near Las Vegas, Brett Tingley takes a rather skeptical attitude toward Warren's claim to have made the discovery using a "DT Meter," or differential time rate meter. Warren says the device allowed him to detect a spot in which time slows down but which is imperceptible to human consciousness. But maybe, suggests Tingley, the DT Meter just malfunctioned. (PH)
