Love/Hate in Ufology - UFO Conjectures

Rich Reynolds links to an outstanding short study by Gilles Fernandez and then "pens" an even shorter piece on how personality dominates ufological discourse to the detriment of productive discussion. The Commenters mostly seem bent on proving out this observation, yet remain far more civil than occurs on other blogs, UFO-related or otherwise. Well, love sometimes hurts, and Rich recounts Two "UFO Events" That Give Me a Headache. They are iconic UFO cases, and thankfully Rich eschews the "easy way" of accusing both protagonists of conscious hoaxing. But, as Rich notes, so far no explanations really satisfy, and since positive "proof" is lacking of what the witnesses said happened, these cases must remain in the "Unidentified" category. One might think the same of the event described in Voronezh September 27, 1989. Spanish journalist/ufologist Jose Antonio Caravaca provides many details not generally known about the case and the stories that developed around it. From its appearance in Jose's recent book and many of the inconsistencies in the story, we'd bet Jose applies his "Distortion Theory" to explain the case. (WM)
