Electric candle turns on by itself.

So, this hasn’t happened in about a month but for a while there, this was very consistent.

My boyfriend has one of those electric candles in his apartment. On the bottom there are three settings: ON, OFF, and 3HR. For about a month and a half, rather consistently (pretty much daily), the candle would turn on when we were both home. It was always at night time, between the hours of 11 pm and 3 am. I always thought it was a bit weird.

I did some searching online where people had said that it was probably something to do with the battery dying.

At some point when this would happen, I would check the bottom of the candle and it would always be switched onto the 3HR setting. I started switching it to OFF and having my boyfriend as a witness to see that I indeed switched it to off. But it kept happening.

Each night, KNOWING that I had switched this candle to OFF, it continued to turn on, surprisingly back on the 3HR setting. Now I know damn well that battery issues aren’t going to turn a little switch on its own. And I certainly haven’t been able to explain this one.

Any theories? Anyone who can debunk this otherwise? He lives in Chicago and his building is quite old.
