Not sure why Steve Contorno is pairing politics and "eccentric beliefs about the galaxy and afterlife," but there it is. Contorno compares Robert Bigelow's funding of "a handful of GOP causes" with his support of Harry Reid, and Bigelow's "company was the chief recipient of" the AAWSAP funding. Before reading this news, we'd done a quick search of Senators and Representatives who had spoken/acted forcefully in favor of governmental UFO studies, and if one thing stands out, it's the bipartisan flavor to the current Congressional push. Another disappointing article is Holman W. Jenkins, Jr.'s
Wall Street Journal piece
Putin and the UFO Sightings. The
opinion piece suffers from deficits in knowledge and grasp of the field, plus a dash of what J. Allen Hynek termed 20th-century "temporal provincialism," which one would hope might dissolve as we approach the second quarter of the 21st century. Thanks to Rob Swiatek for notifying us about this piece. (WM)
