Dr. Fariba Bogzaran Brings Dreams to Life - Pacific Sun

We're all at least somewhat familiar with the concept of lucid dreaming, that state wherein the dreamer is consciously aware they are dreaming and is able to exert some control over events within the dream. Dr. Fariba Bogzaran, founder of the Dream Studies program at John F. Kennedy University in Berkeley, has become so adept at these marvels that she translates her lucid dreams into artwork, now on view at the Bolinas Museum in California. Her work is described as a "testimonial to the mystical, philosophical realm of dream, and a pathway from dream to waking life."  So who wants to learn how to have lucid dreams now? There's a Reliable Way to Trigger Lucid Dreams, Scientists Have Found. It involves using a drug--under controlled circumstances--that's typically used to treat memory loss in Alzheimers patients. Evidently the protocol involves awaking the subject about four and half hours after they've first fallen asleep, having them perform a specific dream induction exercise, then administering the med and returning to slumber. Frankly they lost us at the four and a half hour mark since that's more sleep than we get on any given night. (CM)
