Jessup-Allende - John Keel

The notorious "Philadelphia Experiment"--in which a U.S. Navy destroyer was allegedly made invisible and teleported from Philadelphia to Norfolk in 1943--constitutes one of the more peculiar sideshows in ufology. In Part !, John Keel sitemeister Doug Skinner introduces a Keel file on this controversy. Besides fascinating details about the overall sensation, Keel's missive to Gray Barker and Skinner's comments enlighten on the Men-in-Black and Mothman-related doings. Jessup-Allende (2) gives us some sense of Gray Barker's sense of humor (!) and of the UFO story publishing biz pre-Internet, as well as more on Carlos Miguel Allende, who indirectly revealed details of the "experiment" to Morris K. Jessup, the author of The Case for the UFO. And that is explored further in Jessup-Allende (3). Here are the letters Gray Barker wrote asking why no autopsy was conducted on Morris K. Jessup after he committed suicide. The exchanges are interesting not only for the Jessup case but also for medical examiner Joseph H. Davis, M.D.'s continuing interest in understanding possible reasons for Jessup's final act of desperation. (WM)
