William C. ("Lefty") Levengood is not well-known in ufological circles; a recent article seemed to express doubt he even existed.
The Observer does a good job in rectifying that lack. Part 1 of its series covers the late Levengood's early career and his entrance into the controversy-fraught field (literally) of crop formations. It also discusses the genesis of an unfortunate aspect of this complicated individual's legacy--his appropriation of an academic title he did not achieve.
Part 2 follows that theme, "Lefty's" development of an explanation for the "elongated growth nodes" in determining "real" circles, the entry of English circlefakers "Doug and Dave" into the circle frenzy, and the impending entry of Nancy Talbott into the Levengood story.
Part 3 details the germination of the "BLT Research Team" and Levengood's "electromagnetic plasma vortex" theory branching out into animal mutilations and beyond, plus the peculiar friction between "Lefty" and circle promoter Colin Andrews. "Part 4" of the Levengood saga is forthcoming. (WM)
