Alex Jackinson, the Agent Who Sold “Jadoo - Not an Authority on Anything

John Keel's critics have long insisted that he just makes up stuff. Well, now we know just how much he makes up, thanks to John Keel sitemeister Doug Skinner who has uncovered a chapter about Keel in a book titled Cocktail Party for the Author by Alex Jackinson, Jackinson was the literary agent who helped Keel sell his magazine articles; he was also responsible for selling Keel's first book Jadoo, whose original title was Pattern for Adventure to publisher Julian Messner and is now reprinted by Anomalist Books. In a meeting with the Messner editor on that book, Keel was asked point blank: "What percentage of your book is true?" Keel replied: "Sixty percent." Jackinson was embarrassed and later told Keel: next time say "Eighty percent...Actually I'm sure that more than sixty percent is true?" Keel replied: "It's all true, basically. I just took some dramatic liberties here and there." So now we know. (PH)
