"Leaked" and Controversial UFO Documents: How a Sensational Story Began - Mysterious Universe

"Controversy" courses throughout these Nick Redfern articles, starting with how the uber-dubious "MJ-12 Documents" flowed into the UFO world. Nick poses the question of "greater agendas" than just simple hoaxing behind certain UFO-related sensations, and in The Crashed UFOs That Probably Weren't at All he considers two of what he considers prime examples of Cold War chicanery. He then goes back to the very earliest "modern UFO" days to focus on UFOs: A Hoax Gone Wrong or Something Sinister? Nick's sketch of the Maury Island affair is a decent introduction to a very complex and still discussed set of events. And rounding out the set is Nick's "The Mothman Prophecies" and "The Silver Bridge" - A World of Controversy. Again, there's a brief sketch of another storied and fascinating mystery, supporting Nick's point that one writer "totally crossed the line and in the worst way possible...As time and Ufology progressed." However, Nick recommends reading the book in question, along with John Keel's Mothman work, "padded" though Nick thinks it may be. (WM)
