Los Angeles-based wildlife photographer Simon Needham recently revisited the Glen Garriff Conservation in South Africa, during which he was able to get close enough to photograph some rare white lions. Sometimes mistaken for an albino lion, white lions actually occur due to a recessive genetic mutation in a condition called leucism. For much more on white lions as well as blue tigers, king cheetahs, black cougars, spotted lions, water leopards, rainbow jaguars, transcaucasian demon cats, mexican onzas, surviving saber-tooths,feline mega-marsupials, and more, check out the updated, greatly-expanded edition of Karl Shuker’s very first book
Mystery Cats of the World Revisited, a beautiful, fully illustrated, large format paperback, published by Anomalist Books. (PH)
