Everyone remembers the bright spots on Ceres, the detection of phosphines in Venus, martian microbes in ALH84001, and the sheer strangeness of 'Oumuamua. Or at least we remember the excitement and three-ring circuses surrounding those announcements. Where are these discoveries now? Mostly forgotten with a shrug, and Dan Falk has a few things to say about publish-or-perish can work against the noble causes utilizing science when major discoveries wind up being glitches or merely hype.
