A Physicist Has Worked Out The Math That Makes 'Paradox-Free' Time Travel Plausible - Science Alert

Weirder still, it suggests the universe may be aware and adapting to any jiggery-pokery from determined, or inadvertant, chrononauts. But where would they get the energy to traverse time? Maybe black holes, since Paul Seaburn reckons ETs May Be Feeding Off Of Black Holes And That's How We'll Find Them. Say whaaat? According to Luca Comisso and Felipe Asenjo everything accelerating into a black hole creates energy, and somehow that can be harnessed. While the energy may be free, the infrastructure needed to distribute it may not be so. So how are we going to detect those aliens siphoning from black holes? James Benford, by way of Paul Glister, poses the question, "Was The Wow! Signal Due To Power Beaming Leakage?" With math and hypotheticals from puny humans, James makes a curious case for the proposition and perhaps inspiration for his brother Greg's next story. Meanwhile Jason Colavito continues apace having perused a new book on first contact, finding much to discuss from the celebrated tome where Avi Loeb Imagines Existentialist Aliens In His New Book "Extraterrestrial". Amidst the razzle-dazzle of space-faring aliens and interstellar "comets", Colavito gets down to something more fundamental with Loeb's thesis which may align with Lovecraft's cosmicism — the insignificance of humanity individually and as a whole. As always Jason is spirited and sharp, providing a counter-argument to Loeb's ill-conceived existentialism with the fundamentals of the philosophy. (CS)
