The always thoughtful Michael Prescott wonders how mediums are able to produce "strongly evidential information under conditions designed to prevent cheating." The likeliest of three scenarios, he concludes "is one in which a nonphysical matrix of information, constructed over the course of a lifetime of experience, persists after physical death." But throwing a monkey wrench into the business is the result of a recent study in which the Accuracy and neural correlates of blinded mediumship [were] compared to controls on an image classification task, in which participants were asked to guess the cause of death from facial photographs. The most accurate guesses for the cause of death came from the controls, not those claiming mediumistic abilities. And finally the 2020 PARE Grant Awarded, PARA being the Parapsychological Association Research Endowment, to David Luke at the University of Greenwich, London, and Dani Caputi at University of California, Davis, to develop a naturalistic experimental field pilot study testing the reported ability of Huichol “shamans� to manipulate local weather systems in Northern Mexico.
