A new paper by the same team who announced the preliminary detection of phosphines in the atmosphere of Venus have lowered the estimates of phosphine gas next door. But all is not lost, as Paul Voosen points out the silver lining for this cloudy planet and its potential inhabitants along with explaining why the detection was so strong.
