Flying Saucers in the 1940s & '50s: When Politics Was as Significant as Sightings - Mysterious Universe

Coupled with this interesting headline, Nick Redfern sketches the initial intense interest in and US programs dealing with flying saucers. Recommended further reading: Dr. Brice Maccabee's Three Minutes in June: The UFO Sighting that Changed the World for the Kenneth Arnold sighting, and UFOs and Government: A Historical Inquiry, Michael Swords and Robert Powell, eds., the latter published by Anomalist Books, the preeminent study of world governmental reactions to the UFO conundrum. One of the smaller yet most intractable mysteries related to ufology is tackled in Brent Swancer's Conspiracies, Spies, Aliens, and the Mysterious Death of Jeffrey Lash. There are more strange details in this sad story than can easily be related. And Brent has this to say of A Mysterious Alien Abduction in the Jungle: "It is hard to know what to make of this utterly bizarre case." We agree. (WM)
