How UFO Culture Took Over America - Rolling Stone

Readers will question this article's implication that Seth Shostak is a "UFO expert," and Stephen Rodrick's title itself seems magniloquent since he's basically telling personal stories about a few people mostly UFO-prominent in the last few years. But hopefully what Rodrick actually experienced with those folks is recounted accurately, because it's downright fascinating. The History tv series Unidentified closed its second season suggesting that humanity could be on the verge of Contact. Bryce Zabel says People Get Ready. We're not convinced as Bryce that the "lid" will be blown off the UFOs-are-ETs secret, and that "Some people involved in the architecture of the cover-up are going to jail." But Bryce correctly observes "We may find that the world is not only stranger than we imagine, it is stranger than we can imagine." And the predominantly positive last messages of Unidentified Season Two might need reconsideration. Enter David Halperin's "2020 - The Summer of the Saucers" (Navy UFO Videos, Pentagon Task Force, New York Times). Halperin's misgivings about Bryce Zabel's lavish predictions are well taken. But hopefully David's own portentous view of "the meaning of the Summer of the UFO" is not realized. (WM)
