The photo, taken in 2009,
seems to depict a g-g-g-ghost. Dressed in centuries-old clothing with dour pale face, the specter--or tourist, because that was a lot of stairs to climb--looks out from high within the 14th century castle, seeming to survey all that he/she/it can observe. It's not the first time spooks have put in unexpected media appearances.
So You Have A Ghost in Your Photo? Spirit photography was one of many fraudulent practices Harry Houdini sought to discredit in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. As much as we appreciate his dedication to preventing the sad and vulnerable from being taken advantage of by unscrupulous photographers, we have to admit the process itself is quite fascinating. And morbid--let's not leave that out. We'll stick to snaps of the living, thank you very much. (CM)
