A Maritime Mystery: What Has Been Causing Ships to Sail in Circles? - Sky News

No doubt many who read this question will follow it with one of their own: Were these ships traveling in the Bermuda Triangle? The answer is "No, they were not." These ships were in the south Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa, and there are two strong possibilities as to what caused their instruments to go squirrelly. The first is a weapon of some sort that disrupts navigational capabilities. The second is The Anomaly That Weakens the Earth’s Magnetic Field is Splitting in Half. Please join us for a collective deep sigh, as 2020 isn't finished with us yet. Known as the South Atlantic Anomaly (a dull yet ominous label), scientists have detected a second similar  region west of the original, suggesting the anomaly is splitting in much the same way as a cell divides. What this spread means in the long run remains to be seen, but if 2020 has taught us anything, it's to be prepared for everything. (CM)
