Exploring the Afterlife in the Space Between Sleep and Awake - The Robert Moss Blog

Is sleep the "final frontier" in understanding ourselves, our long term health, and what lies beyond our current existence? Most likely, according to these two reports. EmanuelĂ‚  Swedenborg (1688–1772) was gifted with a remarkable mind and an insatiable curiosity which he brought to bear in his personal studies of sleep as a connection to what lies beyond the veil. His claims of communion with angels and the dearly departed made him unpopular with clergy, to the point of conspiracy to have him removed from the general population. Sounds like our kind of guy. Swedenborg probably knew the answer to this question: Can we manipulate our sleep? Researchers in the field of Sleep Engineering are trying to answer this question in the hopes of preventing the onset and downward spiral of cognitive impairment. We hope that means one day, afternoon naps become mandatory. Until then we'll follow admonishments to get to bed early and follow a schedule of good sleep hygiene. Nighty night. (CM)
