Some Parting Thoughts - Herald Tribune

Billy Cox puts a lyrical "bow" on how "Storm Area 51" turned out. He totals the damages and praises the attendees who, along with the local inhabitants, should perhaps form the real foci of the event. Billy also had feared a possible horrific component to it all. The next two articles are similar in title and subjects, but quite complementary. J. Oliver Conroy's I 'Stormed' Area 51 and it was even Weirder than I Imagined gives a good historical background and sampling of the venues and attendees. Jennings Brown's I 'Stormed' Area 51, Where Memes Abducted Reality enhances the "memes" aspect Conroy had noted, has bigger pictures and a Prymrr interview with "StormArea51" originator Matty Roberts, plus more on the personal experience. The combination made me glad he'd experienced the event--in this vicarious way. That strong opinions exist on other UFO-related and larger issues is patent in Thomas L. Knapp's Navy's Attitude About Releasing UFO Videos More Disturbing Than the Videos. Knapp, director at the William Lloyd Garrison Center for Libertarian Advocacy Journalism, lambasts the "culture of general secrecy" he sees behind the Navy's thinking the vids are "none of our business 15, or even four, years" after their creation.
