Probing Parenago: A Dialogue on Stellar Discontinuity - Centauri Dreams

Could stars possibly be conscious? Physicist Greg Matloff has proposed the concept of stellar volition and argued that psychokinetics might explain their movement. Matloff has pointed to the Parenago’s Discontinuity--which refers to the fact that red, cooler stars move faster in the direction of galactic rotation than blue, hotter stars--as a possible marker of consciousness among low temperature stars, where molecular bonds can form. New research by V. V. Vityazev and colleagues shows that Parengo’s Discontinuity is apparently non-local, which appears to confirm or at least does not falsify the interpretation that stars might be conscious.
