Nature rocked the world of paleoanthropology by publishing the finding of a new species of fossil hominin based on fossils thought to be at least 50,000 years old found at Callao Cave on the northern island of Luzon, Philippines, by a teams of scientists led by Florent Détroit of the National Museum of Natural History in Paris. They have named the new speciesÂ
Homo luzonensis. Loren Coleman, the director of the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine, calls it "one of the most significant prehuman fossil finds since the discovery of
Homo floresiensis in 2003. This news could even have a long term impact on the understanding of and search for Orang Pendek..." (PH)
