Drilling In - Herald Tribune

Billy Cox posts another complimentary article on the March 15-17 conference of the Scientific Coalition for Ufology in Huntsville, Alabama. The focus this time is one of the mathematical studies of performance characteristics demonstrated by phenomena encountered by the USS Nimitz Carrier Strike Group in November of 2004. The presentation by Robert Powell and Peter Reali employed "boundary conditions" to gauge velocity, acceleration, and power characteristics demonstrated by the "Tic Tac Fleet" over a several-day period. These included the amazing altitude shifts of Tic Tacs noted on radar and the "disappearance"/movement of the "Fravor" Tic Tac from the location of the failed engagement to the "CAP Point," the patrol point that Fravor and his wing plane had originally attained and were returning to after the unknown vanished from sight. Thirdly analyzed was the subsequent "Tic Tac video" taken from the ATFLIR camera of a later tandem FA/-18 Super Hornet sortie. Powell and Reali assumed a range of possible values for time judgements, distance, and visual acuity and came to results that, under even the most conservative conditions, far surpass the best of known modern technology. There's always some quibble among practitioners as to what exactly a hypothesis test "proves," but suffice it to say that the Powell-Reali presentation was a stunning piece of work that will require more than the traditional hand-waving of hard-bitten skepticism to dismiss.
