Joe Rogan gives Graham Hancock nearly three hours to discuss his new book
America Before: The Key to Earth's Lost Civilization. Greg Taylor thankfully gives
us the "CliffsNotes" to some of the more important and/or controversial claims in the interview. The conversation apparently bounces over numerous topics. Many of the general observations Hancock has about modern archaeology resonate, while some particular conclusions sound tenuous, and he admits to being speculative about postulates both large and small. Jason Colavito thinks Hancock has gone overboard in "his attacks on archaeology," which "in places distract from or even overwhelm his putative argument." Jason mostly doesn't agree with Graham Hancock's "putative" arguments either, as detailed in Colavito's
Skeptic review
American Atlantis. Jason dissects each of the "eight somewhat loosely connected parts" of
America Before. While acknowledging some truth to the Hancock contention about traditional archaeologists being resistant to change, Colavito demonstrates how Hancock has adopted the "minority viewpoint" regarding many hotly-contested recent discoveries, and, "in many ways an artist rather than a scholar," lets "innuendo and impression do the hard work of turning his cabinet of curiosities into an argument." With
Graham Hancock and Joe Rogan Discuss "America Before" Colavito fleshes out elements in the
Skeptic review of Hancock's
America Before and adds his own "take" on matters not discussed in the book. (WM)
