Mysterious Planetwide Rumble May Have Come From the Largest Underwater Eruption Ever Recorded - Gizmodo

If a tree falls in the woods, and nobody hears it, did it happen? What about a volcanic explosion or meteor impact? Chew on that as you consider the phenomenon of November 11th, 2018 which no one saw, but seismologists were lucky enough to eavesdrop on the event. Now Robin George Andews is piecing together the circumstances surrounding this mystery. Also contributing to the "nobody saw it" file, Brandon Specktor submits this Sneaky Meteor Evading Earthling Detection, exploding with the force of 10 atomic bombs. Exclamation point. While nifty, those 10 atomic bombs comes out to 173 kilotons compared to the Chelyabinsk meteor's 500 kilotons. Only satellites witnessed the event, and Simon Proud shares some snaps of the object's dramatic descent. (CS)
