1,500-Year-Old Mummy Found in Mongolia With Unusual-Looking Shoes - The Epoch Times

A remarkable burial find in central Asia has spawned considerable interest beyond archaeologists, due largely to some non-archaeologists comparing the mummy's boots to thick-laced athletic shoes. Jack Phillips has the summary and links to the original Siberian Times article: Archeologists Find Ancient Mummy Approximately 1,500 Years old in Mongolia. Anna Liesowska's report has more pictures showing some beautifully-patterned embroidery and, of course, the image that spawned the "Adidas" reference. Both articles stress the more serious value of the discovery. Jocelyn LeBlanc tells us that Rare Rock Art Over 12,000 Years Old Shows Mysterious Scene Involving Birds. Again, this good summary links to a parent article that has pictures of the actual carved piece of stone and a 3-D digital model of the piece. The carving is said to be surprisingly well-done for its age and important as an early piece of narrative art. Its exact purpose, however, is currently inscrutable. (WM)
