Distortion Theory: The Physical Presence of Solid Matter in Psychical UFO Encounters - UFO Conjectures

Several ufological camps think UFO experiences are predominantly psychological creations rather than physical manifestations. So what, then, causes physical traces left by Close Encounters, if such are primarily encounters of the mind? Well, Jose Caravaca isn't claiming to know for sure, but he thinks the mechanism could be like that behind reports of anomalous physical activities attributed to mystics and certain saints. Whether one follows Jose here or not, at least he's trying in a novel way to peel The Ufological Onion. Here Rich Reynolds lists some of the many suggested explanations for UFOs. It's enough to deal with the question of what causes UFOs, but what different impacts do UFOs have upon people? A Strange Silence is a Reynolds story about an old friend of his who was somehow "changed" by an unknown aspect of the larger phenomenon. But in a very welcome piece Rich recognizes that human strangeness isn't the sole province of ufology. And I Thought (Some) UFO Peers Were Mean and Duplicitous gives an example from the academic world. (WM)
