Old Timey Superstition: Death Comes in Threes - Appalachian Magazine

Not only does death come in threes, but so do broken dishes, bad news, and household repairs. And just about anything else thanks to traditional beliefs in the Trinity and the resulting tendency to group anything of note into threes. Sort of like the way in which a man with only a hammer tends to see every problem as a nail. In the same vein, we learn of a New Study Links Belief in Pseudoscience to Magicians. This is not surprising considering the lengths to which today's psychological illusionists will go to draw a crowd. Has anyone watched Darren Brown mimic faith healers and "heal" dozens of audience members? Although it can be argued that these magicians are peddling deception, if the result is hope then the end may justify the means. (CM)
