Insider Claims Rendlesham Forest UFO Incident Was a British Military Prank - Mysterious Universe

Yet another identification has surfaced for whatever plagued U.S. soldiers outside a base in England at the end of 1980. Paul Seaburn has the particulars on a claim that British Special Air Service (SAS) commandoes pranked the sentries at RAF Woodbridge over a three-day period in retaliation for rough treatment accorded their group in an unannounced test exercise four months prior. But there's a story within the new story, as Paul relates the story smells of a hoax, and in fact was originally told "to the wrong guy." That person is Dr. David Clarke, who has a habit of checking on things, as Who Dares Wins?: Britain's Roswell Meets the SAS proves. Clarke was approached with the story, disproved it, and then "sat on it" for three years, waiting for the "informant" to shop his yarn to someone else. Now that "Frank" has done so, Clarke is calling his bluff, with solid reasons. The story within a story gets even more dismaying, from a review of news sources who have pounced upon it. Rendlesham Forest UFO Sightings 'Were SAS Revenge Prank'-Claim botches the narrative, intimating that Clarke believes the story. Britain's Most Famous UFO Mystery was Actually Just SAS Soldiers Pranking the Americans, Sleuth Claims talks of "Panicked American marines" and labels Dr. Clarke an "Alien fanatic"--which is about as far from the truth as could be. An interesting commentary on the state of journalism, and yet another spurious tale added to "Britain's Roswell." (WM)
