Every generation has at least one unoriginal opportunist looking for gullible individuals with hope filled hearts and money filled wallets that can easily be separated from their pockets. 19th century Ireland wasn't any different from 21st century America. Granted, the Irish version was a touring limestone giant, the result of a serendipitous digging expedition--or paying off a sculptor--with the resultant "body" making the rounds and collecting admission fees. Potatoes, potahtoes, it's all the same. Hoaxers will be hoaxers, and the discerning will reveal their poorly planned schemes.  Anybody want to buy some swampland??? (CM)
