Rich Reynolds begins his quartet of diverting opinion pieces with a fundamental question: why don't close encounter witnesses report pets on alien craft? This elicits some good responses, including Bryan Sentes's "like terrestrial astronauts, they don't bring their pets on missions..." However, things have been a bit too cramped so far to allow for companion animals, like
Star Trek Enterprise Captain Jonathan Archer's Porthos. Well, Rich says, how about
Aliens [ETs] and Aesthetic Values? The general lack of visible, intelligible "art" on or in reported extraterrestrial ships also bothers Rich. Here he and Bryan Sentes seem more in synch in their views. Rich then moves to articles of personal dress: what is it with
UFO Humanoids and Belts? Here Rich is struck by something he does see associated with aliens: their oft-noted wide and black belts surely can't be aesthetically-motivated; they rather seem mostly utilitarian. Finally, Bryan Sentes becomes a main actor in
Bryan Sentes, Persinger, and Crackpottery. The news of controversial psychological researcher Michael Persinger's death is backdrop for Rich's concept of "Crackpottery" and an ensuing debate with Professor Sentes, who like a good teacher during the "backnforth" thoughtfully takes a moment to make sure readers know what is going on!
