About 8 years ago, while I was living with my aunt in Springfield, MO, I had my one and only paranormal experience.
Let me start off by saying that I am, and always have been, a skeptic. I’ve never believed in the paranormal, or anything supernatural. My aunt however is a firm believer in all things, and is a Wiccan. Let’s just say when I moved in with her there was a lot of moments where I caught myself rolling my eyes at her.
So anyway, I’m living with her, I’m 14, there are three bedrooms in the house at the end of a hallway leading from the living room. I have a room to myself, and my aunt and her boyfriend sleep in the room across the hall and her 5 yr old daughter sleeps in the room at the very end of the hall.
At 6AM my alarm goes off for school, I hit the snooze intending to get a few more minutes of rest. That’s when I hear heavy footsteps pacing back and forth in the hall. My door is shut, and at first I assume that it’s just my aunt’s boyfriend getting ready for work, but I quickly rule that explanation out because he didn’t have to work that day. My mind then goes straight to a thief or murderer. I’m frozen in fear, lying in my bed, just waiting for someone to come in and murder me like a fucking idiot. (Why the fuck didn’t I get up and do something??) I lay there for what seems like forever, but probably was only 10-20 minutes. The footsteps continue to pace back and forth this whole time. When I finally get the courage to get out of bed, the footsteps stop. I slowly and quietly walk to my bedroom door and crack it open, peeking into the hallway. No one was there. I looked in everyone else’s rooms and they were all still fast asleep. I checked both the back and the front door, they were both locked.
After school that day I told my aunt about what had happened and she proceeded to tell me that there was a friendly old man ghost who haunted the house, and that he was harmless.
I will always remember that day and how terrified I was, frozen, lying in bed.
