My first paranormal experience that I can remember would be when I was out fishing with my parents, I think I was around 10 or 11.
We were fishing at Teal Lake, a large lake in my hometown. It was great for fishing, by the way. It was around 8-9pm in the summer time, so it was starting to get dark. The area we were sitting in was a little cleared out dip in the path. We brought our chairs, poles, bait and everything to the little area.
Let me paint a little bit of history of the lake. It was man-made, dug out in I believe the late 1800s or so. Supposedly in the work of digging it out, there was an accident and some of the workers had died. The lake is very large and very deep, so I'm assuming it must have taken ages to dig.
Now lets actually get into the story.
My mom and step-dad were sitting facing the water, away from the path with their poles already in. I was still setting up my pole, sitting a few feet away from where they were sitting. I was facing the path and sitting on the ground, trying to set my pole up properly. When I stood up, I immediately froze as I saw someone walk past me, but it wasn't a full person. It was about half of a body, barely visible, he was wearing a workers outfit from what I could tell, and he appeared to be mid 40s maybe. But I couldn't get a good look, he was there one second and then he was gone the next.
I still don't know why he chose to show himself to me. I always believe everything happens for a reason. I've always been a spiritual person, however this experience really forced me into researching more. I love paranormal things, and I believe this experience was important. I don't have a choice whether or not I believe in ghosts and such, because I grew up just knowing.
I wish I was more reasonable back then though, because my body immediately had chills and goosebumps, and I dropped my pole and ran to my mom, scared. I wish I had tried to at least calm myself down.
