I must preface this story with the fact that I had no knowledge of what hatman was, or of the fact that he existed. It was only this past weekend that I learned of the significance of what I saw in the middle of the night 3 months ago. I say this so that it’s understood that I had this event without knowing what hatman is.
I was in the middle of a normal nights sleep when I suddenly opened my eyes. This experience of waking up wasn’t normal, I immediately realized it wasn’t morning, and it felt as if something was wrong. Everything was eerily silent, and I didn’t feel drowsy as if I was waking up in the morning.
As my eyes began adjusting to the darkness, I started to see something darker than the rest of the room to the right of my bed. I noticed it was in the form of a torso, and as I looked up I could make out arms, neck and head. The most peculiar part was that this dark figure was wearing what seemed to be a top hat.
Now I must remind you that I woke up feeling as if something was wrong, it was almost as if I knew he was there before I opened my eyes. I knew this figure was threatening, and not a family member or friend. I started yelling something along of the lines of, “Hey! Hey! Someone! Hey!”. (Retrospectively I find those to be an odd choice of words).
At this point I am more scared than I ever have been in my life (there’s no possible way to explain the fear I felt over text, so I will just say that it’s changed my understanding of other people’s stories and that I can understand them in a different way). I can’t move and realize I’m in sleep paralysis, so I just keep saying those words, “Hey! Hey! Someone! Hey!”. But nothing I say is changing the fact that it’s standing right next to my bed overlooking me.
It’s not just a hallucination, it persists after blinking, it’s not see through, it’s real, it’s dangerous, and it’s not going away. After a rush of thoughts like that, I finally jump out the opposite side of my bed, a sprint up two flights of stairs to my parents room (I’m 23, but staying at my parents house this night). I immediately say there’s someone in my room, say that it looks like he’s wearing a hat and he was staring over me.
My parents both at this point wake up trying to ask questions, but none of them got through to me because everything sounded muffled to me. I lost the strength to stand up, and flopped on their bed, and was just saying, “hold on hold on” to them (because I couldn’t hear what they were saying to me). After my head hit their bed it felt like thousands of needles were being pulled from my head, and I almost heard a crackling sound.
After that I could hear again, and my parents consoled me. We proceed to check every nook and cranny in the basement, but don’t find anything. I find the courage to go back to sleep in my room and do just that. The next day I talk with my parents and we wonder why my yelling of “hey, someone, hey” didn’t wake them up. We still haven’t figured that one out.
Anyway, fast forward 3 months, and I’m telling this story to a friend. He immediately recognizes the dark figure I described, and exclaims, “you’ve seen hatman???!!”. I get the chills, as I realize this event wasn’t unique to me. Anyway, that’s what leads me here, to tell this story. I want to know more about hatman, and what his visit could mean.
