I've always wondered what this meant

A few years ago, I was visiting my mom who lived with her then boyfriend in this tiny little town. I mean, we are talking TINY. As it came to be, the house her boyfriend lived in (in addition to the guy's family) was right next to the first cemetery for the town. I've always been curious about super old cemeteries and I like to pay my respects to those who are gone. So, I asked if I could go looking around and no one minded because they know that I'm simply just looking and won't cause any harm to the headstones.

I walk up to the gate and there is nothing on the ground that shouldn't be there (you'll want to remember that small bit of information for the end). The second I pass the gate, I got a slightly chilled feeling in the air, but with it being in the cemetery, I expected nothing less. I didn't feel threatened at all. So I started at the end closest to the house where I was staying and just looked around. Saw mostly newer headstones and they got older the further down I went. I was curious about these people. I wanted to know what kind of lives they led and maybe even how they died. Hell, I even got sad when I saw the headstones of children.

About this time, I'm around a quarter of the way through and I still feel the chill. The whole atmosphere was very relaxed and welcoming almost. As if the spirits of those there were okay with me being there. I'm making my way up and I'm towards the middle of the cemetery. Looking down the aisle, I could even see the gate I just came through. Since they lived in the middle of nowhere, I heard no one and saw no one in the vicinity, except for over at the house that was maybe a half mile away from where I was. I'm now coming up on the biggest headstone in the entire place and was half way through. I'm assuming that these plots belonged to the city's founder and his family. I treat them no different. I look and wonder to myself what kind of lives they led and what all happened back in the year 1800 for them.

Remember that chill and welcoming presence I mentioned earlier? Yeah, it was gone and it left very quickly. I no longer felt welcome. So I immediately walked right out. I step out of the gate, shut it, and found an empty beer bottle right near the entrance. Out of respect for the property, I picked it up and brought it with me to throw away once I got back to the house.

I've always wondered what it meant when the chill went away so quickly, if it means anything at all. I haven't done any research on the town, but probably should. I also haven't been back since then. Was just curious if any of you fine people knew what it could mean.
