So, this piece of land was in south austin, and never been developed, then an apartment complex popped up on it, and I used to live on the third floor of the last building facing the rest of the land left untouched.
Let me set up the lay out. 3 apartments were on the top floor, 2 on one side that were one bedrooms, the one across from those was a 3 bedroom single apartment that took up that whole side. When my gf moved in before me (because we still had things to do at the old place) she called me and told me she was late for work because the electricity had shit off in the bedroom causing the alarm to not go off, and she was going to have to plug her alarm in the living room until I get there to see why the power keeps going off at night.
When i arrive with the rest of our stuff and the prev. apartment taken care of, i check the breaker box to see if theres any obvious issues with the switch to the bedroom and closet. Everything seems brand new, not even dust, metal still shiny(no, we werent the 1st tenants). Nothing was out of place, all the sockets were fine. I turned on the breaker and plugged in everything we needed, to see if the breaker would pop, it didnt, left the closet light on for added strain, nothing.
Untill 9:30PM rolled around and the switch for the bedroom popped shutting everything in there off including the closet light. I went to check the switch, then flipped it back on, she had to leave because her shift starts at 10PM. 7 minutes later the switch pops again. I turn it back on, 3 minutes later it pops again, scared for a fire (not a ghost) i just leave it off.
The next morning when she comes home i turn the switch on so she can use the closet. the breaker never popped during the day. only around 9:30 or 10. I never had access to a camera, or a microphone, or anything i could use to record what was happening. All i could do was type down on my computer the times and frequencies of the breaker popping. It was always near the same time period that initiated the pop, then id run over to turn the switch back on, then time how long it took to pop back off. I noticed that the re popping off of the switch was pretty consistent, down to a minute of the last time every night. Say, if thursday the 2nd pop was 5 minutes after the 1st, the next mnight would be only a minute, and the next the same, always the same type of pattern.
Friday
1st pop: 9:35
2nd pop: 9:38
3rd: 9:42
Saturday
1st: 9:37
2nd: 9:39
3rd: 9:41
And so on and so on. Id stop at 4 or 5 times because id get scared (not of ghosts again, but of a fire if thats why it was popping).
We both eventually had to live with not having power at night and only during the day, We decided to investigate why this was going on and found out that no one wanted to live on the 3rd floor very long, the apartment next to us was empty the one across from us the family moved out 2 weeks after we moved in, maintenance never bothered to lock the door. When we asked the manager she told us that the rate of people leaving our building was much higher than the rest of the complex, but didnt really believe in any of the storys of why they left.
One morning at 5am i was in the kitchen making something to eat when i heard banging noises from next door. I put my ear to the wall on that side and heard what sounded like the cubbard doors banging over and over again, like say if someone was frantically looking for the ground coffee to put in their coffee maker. I even walked over next door to check to see if it was rented, it was not, the padlock with key was still on the handle, i put my ear up to the door to see if i heard anything, i did not, i checked the handle to see if it was open, it was not. I went back to my kitchen and didnt hear anything else, nor had i heard that sound again after that.
When we started talking about the possibility of a haunting, an ACTUAL FRIGGING haunting we were both amused but also scared. But what happened was pretty typical of this type of haunting, we started to fight a lot, not get along, and eventually getting into physical fights, and I eventually left her. This is typical of every recorded live in haunting and movies about it, where the entity loves to create friction between family members.
So, as many people as i have told about the breakers, all anyones ever tried to tell me is that that breaker was "faulty" ignoring the fact that a faulty breaker decides to ONLY be faulty between 9:30 pm and 10:15 PM, never breaks during the strain of everything being turned on all day. And no one could make claims on why there seemed to be an obvious pattern to the breaker being switched off again after immediately being turned on again with that short few minute delay.
I haven't been down that part of town since then, so i cant say if the rest of that plot has been developed. Nor do i know if it was our being there that influenced an increase of activity, nor what made people abandon the 3rd floor so quickly.
